2017 hasn’t been particularly kind to the Kardashian/Jenner clan.
The year started off on something of a sour note for the family after a Pepsi commercial featuring Kendall Jenner endured a widespread backlash for apparently insensitive parallels to the Black Lives Matter Movement. In the advert, Jenner is seen joining a group of protestors, who are being closely watching by police officers. Stepping out of the crowd, Jenner hands one of the officers a can of Pepsi. After taking a swig, the officer gives a wry “well, what d’you know?” smile to his fellow law enforcement official, to the rapturous delight of the crowd.
More recently, Kendall and Kylie Jenner came under fire for a line of t-shirts that superimposed apparent Instagram photos of the two starlets over the top of pictures of iconic music stars including Tupac and Ozzy Osbourne. Add to that the swirling tempest surrounding the Rob Kardashian/ Blac Chyna fallout, and it isn’t difficult to arrive at the conclusion that 2017 has hardly been the notorious family’s year thus far.
It would appear that things have taken yet another nosedive, however, after reports emerged suggesting that Kim Kardashian’s company has been hit with an astonishing lawsuit.
Hot on the heels of the last 2017 Kardashian/Jenner drama, it has been reported that Kim Kardashian’s company is being sued for $100m over her endorsement of LuMee, a phone case that purports to give users the ability to take perfect selfies.
Snap Light has filed a patent infringment lawsuit against Kimsaprincess Inc., claiming that they were the first to design a light-up phone case, and that Kardashian’s company’s infringement is affecting their potential profits.
Snap Light have alleged that they have been unable to compete in a market place dominated by LuMee – aided by Kardashian’s endorsement.
A representative for Kim Kardashian issued a defiant statement in defence of the reality star;
“The patent lawsuit filed by Snap Light has no merit and is just another attempted shakedown. Kim has done absolutely nothing wrong.”
The Daily Mail reports that Snap Light has “asked the court to force Kardashian to stop promoting the LuMee brand of phone cases, claiming she gets a cut of the company’s earnings”, as well as requesting damages of a reported $100m to account for missed profit opportunities.
Kim Kardashian has consistently promoted the LuMee phone case via her considerable social media following and trademark selfies.
Elsewhere, Caitlyn Jenner appeared on Jimmy Kimmel’s ever popular late night talk show recently, and in doing so discussed some comments that the presenter, and other television personalities, had made around the time of her transition. She told Kimmel;
“Kris and I, we had gone our separate directions, not because of gender issues but because of other things. And there I was back in Malibu all by myself, and so I slowly went through, told all my children, because it had been just hammered all over the media. In fact, guys like you making, hmm, some jokes…”
Kimmel apologised for the remarks, telling Jenner that no one knew what was happening at the time. You can read more about that interview, and watch the clip, here.
