What Would It Be Like If The Rock Became President?

As we already reported, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson might be running for President. A year ago, people probably would have just shrugged their shoulders – Johnson himself probably would have done some dumbbell shrugs – at the news, but now… well, now anything is a possibility in this post-Trump world.

Especially for a guy with more than 58 million ‘likes’ on his official Facebook page and over 86 million followers on Instagram. By comparison, Donald Trump only has a mere 22 million Facebook fans and a paltry 6.7 million Instagram followers.

Which got us thinking – what if The Rock decided to turn his back on being the highest paid actor in the world to actually run for office? And what if he won? What kind of President would he be? We know that he’s strong. We know that he’s a nice guy. We know he’s a good actor – he was, after all, a WWE superstar (Oh, you thought we meant his movies? Those too). But what would that mean for the White House?

We had a little forage into the world of The Rock and made these wholly unscientific but very likely determinations.

1. If he got inside the ring, he’d take it seriously

In the GQ article that spawned all this speculation, Johnson talked about the first time the idea was mentioned, in an op-ed by The Washington Post.

He shared the article with his followers almost immediately, but then actually decided it was worth giving the idea – and his potential policies – some proper thought, saying: “I didn’t want to be flippant – ‘We’ll have three days off for a weekend! No taxes!'” There’d be no chokehold on the economy, then…

2. He’d protect the troops

In his movies, Johnson has saved America – and the world – numerous times, and usually singlehandedly. As President, he’d literally have an army at his disposal, and he wouldn’t be afraid to use it. Johnson is a big fan of the US military and at the end of last year he even staged a mega-event in support of servicemen to honour the 75th anniversary of Pearl Harbor. It was called Rock The Troops.

While we can’t say for certain what his plan of action would be, we’re hoping he’s seen enough conflict as an actor and wrestler to not start any more wars, and just stick to looking after veterans. Wouldn’t that be nice?

3. He’d look after the little people, too

With all his millions, Johnson can afford to look after those near and dear to him – for Christmas last year, he bought his dad Rocky a brand new car.

While he probably wouldn’t dish out a brand new automobile for every citizen, we think he’d probably be a compassionate leader, especially since his dad had a rough life and Johnson himself grew up with little money. Plus, one of his signature wrestling moves was called The People’s Elbow. What more proof do you need?

4. There would be golf…

It seems like a prerequisite – if you’re going to be president, you have to love playing golf. The Rock would probably spend more time in the Oval Office than the current chap in the White House – that’s not hard, after all – but he’d also be able to whoop Trump’s ass across 18 holes. He claims his longest ever drive was measured at 490 yards, just 25 shy of the world record.

5. …but he might actually be presidential

As aggressive and heavy-handed as he can be in the ring and onscreen, the real Dwayne Johnson is actually something of a thinker. He knows that it would be a tough job, and he knows there would be differences of opinion. But he’s also aware that temper tantrums aren’t the way forward.

“I’d like to see a better leadership,” he told GQ. “I’d like to see a greater leadership. When there’s a disagreement, and you have a large group of people that you’re in a disagreement with – for example, the media – I feel like it informs me that I could be better.” You know what? He’s probably right.
